GJHP presents Disney's NEWSIES, live at Misner Auditorium at Central School, for four performances, April 24-27, 2025. This major musical production features over 40 Glencoe middle schoolers in the cast and crew, supported by a professional creative team and a live band. Newsies is appropriate for audiences of all ages.  Tickets, priced $15 in advance ($20 at the door) go on sale on Monday, March 31 at 10am. See below for cast details and dates for double-cast roles.

Inspired by the Newsboys' Strike of 1899 in New York, NEWSIES tells the rousing story of the newsboys and girls who stand up against powerful publishers to demand fair treatment. The charismatic but rebellious Jack Kelly rallies young people from across the city to strike against unfair working conditions and demand change "Once and For All."Filled with catchy songs and exciting dances, NEWSIES explores themes of friendship, solidarity and the power of the press, in a relatable tale of the underdog standing up for what is right.

Based on the 1992 movie starring Christian Bale, NEWSIES features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors) and Jack Feldman, and a book by Tony-winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs "Carrying the Banner" and "Seize the Day," NEWSIES is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and all audiences.

GJHP's production of Disney's Newsies is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

ABOUT THE GJHP MUSICAL

GJHP Footloose

The GJHP Musical is a no-cut show open to Glencoe 6th-8th graders for both the Cast and Crew. This is one of the largest productions in the area, with a professional creative team providing an experience like those at New Trier High School, including exciting dances, awesome harmonies, great costumes and live band. Misner will be transformed with a huge set, lights and sound.

The Crew is a critical part of the GJHP Musical. Members are responsible for behind-the-scenes elements like running lights and sound, managing props, and changing set pieces during the show. Being part of the Crew is an excellent way to get backstage experience on a big show! Find out more about the Crew HERE.
